Cycling through time – riding past fairy chimneys in Kapadokya, Turkiye

We wake early and climb to the roof top deck, coffee in hand. The morning sky is alive with colour — hundreds of hot air balloons rising overhead, drifting over the valley.  We watch them float and dip among the stone spires, the light changing as the morning sun rises.

Later, we set out on our own journey — this time on two wheels. We meander through the village and onto dusty paths that wind through soft white valleys, past stone columns and cave dwellings carved by hands long gone. Centuries of footsteps have followed these same routes — traders, pilgrims, shepherds — and now, cyclists. There are routes for all kinds of riders, from easy double tracks to challenging technical rides. We follow the narrow tracks between sculpted rocks, pause for lunch in a vineyard, and enjoy exploring.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kapadokya’s surreal landscape of fairy chimneys and cave towns have drawn travelers for generations. Formed by volcanic eruptions and shaped by centuries of human adaptation, it remains a place that reminds us how briefly we pass through this world.
