Looking for the best places to ride in Vernon?
You’ve come to the right place.
Framed by Kalamalka Lake, Okanagan Lake and Swan Lake, Vernon and Coldstream offer some of the most scenic and varied cycling in British Columbia. Whether you’re looking for an easy rail trail, quiet country roads, lakeside cruising or a longer adventure, there’s something here for every rider.
If someone asked me where I’d spend a long weekend cycling in the Okanagan, this would be near the top of my list.
One day you can pedal beside the turquoise waters of Kalamalka Lake. The next, explore the historic Grey Canal, ride quiet roads through Predator Ridge, then unwind at Sparkling Hill Resort.
It’s one of those places that keeps drawing me back.

Greater Vernon proudly calls itself the Trails Capital of BC and it’s easy to see why.
From lakeside rail trails and vineyard roads to mountain viewpoints, wildlife reserves and historic irrigation canals, there are hundreds of kilometres of routes to explore.
Start with these favourites:
• Okanagan Rail Trail
• Grey Canal Trail
• Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park
• Kal Crystal Waters Trail
• Predator Ridge

GREY CANAL TRAIL
Travel into the past, as you trek 30 km along sections of the historical Grey Canal Trail, a former irrigation canal. Each trail section offers unique topography with distinctive panoramic views. Remnants of the elaborate system of ditches, siphons and flumes can be found along the trail with interpretive signs.

OKANAGAN RAIL TRAIL
Head south to Lake Country via the Okanagan Rail Trail alongside Kalamalka Lake – lake of many colours. Loop back to Vernon on the equally exquisite Kal Crystal Waters trail.

“There is something for everyone in the Trails Capital of BC. Depending upon the season and trail, users can enjoy Greater Vernon trails and routes by walking, hiking, road and mountain biking. Some trails are suitable for horse-riding, and others are accessible by wheelchair, or roller blading. Trails at higher elevations are renown for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Come and experience them for yourself!” ~ Ingrid Neumann, Ribbons of Green Trails Society Director

If you have three or four days, make Predator Ridge your home base.
From one location you can easily explore Kalamalka Lake, Coldstream, Vernon, the Grey Canal and the Okanagan Rail Trail.
If you’re celebrating something special, stay a night at Sparkling Hill.
