Great Blue Heron Way
Sometimes when riding we think...where in the world are we? This was certainly true as we cycled along the Great Blue Heron Way in Tsawwassen First Nation. This is a little gem of a ride near the ferry terminal, there’s a new boardwalk and quiet side streets to explore. Big plans are in the works...but for now we were pleased to see a place where ducks lined the shores and wildflowers bloomed ― a quiet oasis just outside of the big city.
Stanley Park
The Stanley Park Seawall is Vancouver’s most famous ride. Part of The Great Trail, dozens of people ride this popular route every day, especially on weekends. Once the kids are confident on their bikes this is a great ride. There’s lots to see and do in Stanley Park — Aquarium, totem poles, gardens, lighthouse, and so much more! Explore the many park trails under the shade of tall cedars or enjoy a picnic at one of the beaches - a perfect ride for a hot summer day.
Steveston South Dyke Trail
A favourite and easy ride — from art sculptures to boats, an old fishing village with many shops and restaurants, three museums, a boardwalk, wildlife — this ride has it all.
Barnston Island + Surrey Bend
Here’s an easy ride that has a bonus of a ferry ride! It’s really a barge pushed by a tugboat, so that makes it all the better. Start at Surrey Bend Park and explore the trails, then bike onto the ferry and around Barnston Island. The road is flat and paved, there are views of the river and farms, and it’s especially fun in the fall during cranberry harvest. Bring a picnic!
Fraser Shores
Explore Burnaby’s Fraser Foreshore Park and Vancouver’s River District Trail on this section of the Canyon to Coast Trail. Ride the Fraser River shoreline and look for tugboats, barges, and log booms. There are places to stop and view the river, eat at Romer’s Burger Bar at the foot of Kerr Street, or you can bring a picnic lunch and watch the river traffic go by.
Millennium Trail
Start from Deas Island Park and bike Millennium Trail to the Marina and back, or continue west and explore the town of Ladner. Return via same route or along the slough near Commodore. Enjoy a walk in Deas Island Park on your return.
BMUT = Burnaby Mountain Urban Trail
The Burnaby Mountain Urban Trail - BMUT is fine anytime of the year, but especially on crisp fall days riding through piles of leaves. It’s an easy route - mostly flat on a paved and separated greenway. There are lunch options at Burnaby Mountain Golf course or along Hastings Street.
