~~~~ All aboard the the Sicamous Ferry! ~~~~
Cruise across the Sicamous Narrows aboard the free Sicamous Ferry and step right onto the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail – or SNORT, as the locals call it!
The Sicamous Ferry is a built-for-Sicamous idea that perfectly suits this boating community. The new shuttle glides across the Sicamous Narrows, linking Mara Lake and Shuswap Lake, whisking you from the public dock on Martin Street to Sicamous Beach and the rail trail.
When complete, the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail will be over 50 kilometers long–a continuous non-motorized greenway highlighting Secwépemc First Nation’s cultural values while connecting communities from Sicamous to Armstrong. Part of a bigger vision, this trail will connect with other rail trails as part of the Trail of the Okanagans (TOTO) extending all the way to Osoyoos. Over 14 km of this rail trail is now open along Mara Lake, and more sections are under construction. The ferry gives you a front-row seat to the progress – plus a relaxing ride on the water.
This isn’t your average shuttle – it’s a patio boat complete with railings, benches and even a bike rack. Funded through donations and sponsorships, the Sicamous Ferry Society dreamed it up to provide safe access to the rail trail.
The best part? It’s free! There’s no set sailing schedule–the ferry cruises back and forth as needed. There are ferry phones at Beach Park to text the captain for pickup, while over at the rail trail you can often just wave when you’re ready to go. The ferry runs daily from 9 am to 5:30 pm on a continuous loop, weather permitting. Whether you’re walking, biking, or bringing along your four-legged friend, everyone’s welcome aboard.
It’s all about a sense of adventure – giving people a new way to connect to recreational trails. And it’s been a hit! Ridership has exceeded all expectations, with glowing reviews from both locals and visitors.
Come on up to the Shuswap – the SNORT is calling, the water’s sparkling, and the ferry’s waiting for you.
