Sumas Lake Loop

Did you know there was once a large lake on the Sumas Prairie? Semá:th Xo:tsa (Sumas Lake) was home to the Stó:lō people for millennia. In the early 1920s settlers lobbied government to drain the lake to create farm land. You can cycle the route around the lake and flood plain to see how large it was. In flood years lake water filled the entire yellow outline. Link to Bike Abbotsford for maps, gps tracks and historical information.
