There’s a very unassuming park in the Delta Watershed that runs along Burns Bog and near the Alex Fraser freeway. You feel as if you are miles away from the world on this woodsy trail with a river beside it. Take the short version with the kiddos, explore singletrack trails or extend the ride out to Boundary Bay for great views.
This ride first came to me thanks to a blog reader Marie who cycles with her kids: “The ground can be a little rough in some places, but I could easily handle it with the trail-a-bike behind me. Great opportunity to spot birds and dozens of rabbits and the kids liked looking at the trains. You can start by Planet Ice or right under the AlexFraser off River Road.” And thanks to Robert for the trail segments and Mark for route to Mud Bay. It’s always nice to get recommendations like this!
And ProofRider Bob adds, “If I could offer one suggestion that might help other riders choosing the Watershed ride, it would be how to easily find where the ride commences on River Rd. We spent quite a bit of time determining exactly where we got onto the “Greenway”, as it’s quite obscure and not easily seen from the road. If it simply noted that ” the ride commences right next door to the Tidewater Pub, on the west side”, it might help other riders. It could also be noted that there is a gravel parking lot available to use at that same location. In our case we parked at Planet Ice, which is about 3 blocks from our starting point.”
